This past Sunday, THE MINIMALE BLOGGER ventured out for a little sightseeing with Jeremy Howard, director of Energy Tours in Cape Town, South Africa. On our day-trip we visited a few destinations in hopes of capturing some of the best the Western Cape has to offer. Below are my favorites picks from the day.
SCHOON CAFE & EATERIES, STELLENBOSCH
This local favorite boasts great coffee, architecture and renowned baked goods. Our guide suggests a few of their decadent pastries, and I can definitely see why. From their lush tarts, to their rich cakes, SCHOON shows no apparent shortage in their delicious inventory.
After being seated, we agree on a cheese and meat board platter. Once our order arrives, we all comment on how perfectly their in-house baked breads accompany our choice of artisan cheese and preserves. After racing through our meal, we order one round of SCHOON’s famous in-house brewed coffee along with an almond croissant and panne tart, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We wrap-up our time at SCHOON with one final indulgence, choosing to try a scoop (or two) of the creamiest ice cream – and no less scooped into their delicious baked cinnamon cones!
ON ROUTE TO BETTY’S BAY, WESTERN CAPE
If you’re a nature savant, then you’ll really enjoy this route. Encased by breathtaking mountainous views and lush greenery, we enjoyed every minute of our drive along the countryside landscape. This was the perfect way to relax and unwind after a mammoth lunch.
BETTY’S BAY BEACH, WESTERN CAPE
As with most South African beaches, Betty’s Bay is exceptionally beautiful, however, this beach is hardly ever thronged with people. Located nearby a child-friendly park, this beach also boasts a lagoon which is perfect for non-swimmers during low-tide, where the water shallows in at less than a meter across the lagoon.
INSIDE-GUIDE: Betty’s Bay beach has a nearby harbor-style restaurant that makes for the perfect sunset dinner on deck, with it’s spectacular sunset views overlooking the beach.
