CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

CHRISTMAS gifting can either go one of two ways: if you’ve been good with your to-do-lists, you’d have shopped all your gifts on time (read: NO last-minute runs to the mall on Christmas eve), the latter most likely at the malls on Christmas morning, scouring the isles in hopes of a Christmas miracle. While the second scenario may be perfectly plausible in those holiday movies we all annually binge on, in real-time, gift shopping doesn’t have to require a full production set and crew to have a happy ending. In today’s gift guide, I’ve compiled a few gift ideas with easy-to-shop links. Whether your budget is a little tight this time of year, or you’ve no idea what to get that one colleague for Secret Santa, there’s a gift that’ll make for the perfect stocking filler.

G enerally, picking out a scent for a loved-one can be tricky – scent preferences are so varied, and often change seasonally. A scented candle typically has a longer life-span than most fragrances (whether that be perfume, body oils or bath cremes) and is less intimate too – so perfect for newer friends / work colleagues. One particular scent that I absolutely recommend is by MRP home and includes top notes of white Jasmine and re-energizing mint. The elegant packaging and simplicity makes it look and feel expensive in any space, and on any counter-top.

A dding one or two candles as fillers to a Christmas gift-box feels thoughtful and makes the entire box smell really good. If you’re just getting these as a stand-alone gift, I’d suggest getting an assortment of 3 and adding a personalized note card to each one.

If candles aren’t quite right for that special loved-one this Christmas, perhaps it’s a gift they’re in dire need of, but never seem to prioritize. Has your friend been nagging you about their poor eyesight? Or perhaps you’ve been on their case to finally schedule an eye test, and get prescription glasses. Alas, being both the former and the latter, albeit at different stages, I can vouch that finding stylish eyewear (that doesn’t threaten your life’s savings) can be difficult, if not at times impossible. Surprise your loved-one with these Gone Vogue frames – the ultimate tres chic glasses (and Tom Ford inspired, too.) It’ll be the giftee’s responsibility to get prescription lenses put in, but the job of finding frames that’s both durable and comfortable is complete – and the thoughtful gesture shows you care.

Being an avid collector of fashion magazines, many of which range from R100-R200, it’s usually something I purchase as a treat, rather than a regular thing. Drawing a lot of my visual stimulation from editorials and printed text, being gifted a subscription to my favorite magazine would be one of the most thoughtful gifts. What’s more, yearly subscriptions is a gift that keeps on giving, and is perfect for loved ones who stay out of reach, or who you won’t see very often. One particular publication who produces consistently great issues is Porter magazine, and their yearly subscription link can be found HERE – simply scroll down the page until you see “deliver to the gift recipient”.

WISHING YOU ALL A BLESSED CHRISTMAS.
