A SIMPLE GUIDE TO CELEBRATING THIS CHRISTMAS

Christmas in South Africa might not mirror white snow gatherings, knitted-jersey-traditions or copious hot cocoas with too many marshmallows in it, but each new year in this vibrant country rivals the previous festivities and manages to surprise and delight nearly everyone partaking in the occasion. In the spirit of it all, I thought I’d share my favorite things to do over this special time, and show you how I decorate around my space to help get me in to the festivities. 5 THINGS: LIFE UPDATE

Morning! It’s a sunny Friday in Cape Town and I’m up early, coffee in-tow, thinking about how much has happened this year. We’re nearing the end of a really long and busy year, and in light of all that’s happened, I thought it would be a good time to update you on what’s been going on with me. 5 THINGS: LIFE UPDATE

WEEKEND-APPROVED GIN LIME COCKTAILS

If  there’s one thing that can almost instantly perk up my mood, it would have to be a pretty cocktail – they’re perfect for summer, which is just around the corner, and come in so many different delicious varieties. Today on the blog I’ll be sharing a recipe concocted by me, and perfectly put together by my other half – a gin & lime zest cocktail with a dash of mint extract. THE EASIEST BRAN MUFFINS YOU’LL TRY THIS WEEK

Hello! Today has been a rather laid-back one where I’ve spent the entire time at home, couched out and doing a bit of baking as well. I figured this would be a good chance to make use of the bran muffin mix I bought on Sunday, while simultaneously satisfying my sweet tooth. I initially planned to stick to the recipe but as I went along, I decided to make a few changes, which turned out really good. I thought I’d share my easy adapt on the blog for those wanting to give it a go on their next bake-off. THE EASIEST BRAN MUFFINS YOU’LL TRY THIS WEEK

CHOCO-OAT-COOKIE BREAKFAST JAR

Morning! Today I decided to hop out of bed and finally post this long-overdue recipe on the blog. It took a little thinking on my part as I decided to stray from the original recipe I had in mind when I bought these cute little mason jars the other week. My recipe was inspired on a chance encounter with a rather delicious (and addictive!) oat cookie with chocolate nibs, but can definitely be tweaked to suit a healthier diet – particularly if you’re vegan. UNFRAMED ICE CREAM

This past friday Lemuel and I celebrated another anniversary (yes, it’s like the hundredth) and because of my lactose intolerance currently at an all time high we opted for a new spot in Kloof st. that offers both vegan and non-vegan ice cream to treat ourselves. Founded by New Yorker-turned-Capetonian, Yann Rey, Unframed Ice cream parlor offers an unusual selection of innovative flavors that both shock and indulge the senses, with a vast selection of toppings to amp things up if you’re in to that.
I kept things simple with a scoop of Lemongrass infused Jasmine rice on a sugar cone topped with vegan dark chocolate sauce. I was absolutely blown away at the creamy consistency of the vegan ice cream – as most non-dairy alternative usually lack in this regard.

The flavor was a mouthful in both name and taste – but I enjoyed it from start to finish. The boyfriend went with two scoops of dairy ice cream and chose burnt white chocolate and salted caramel peanut which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to the awesome staff for letting us try out a few flavors first and for the general warmth and friendly service – we will definitely be back for another taste adventure. If you’re after a taste flight yourself, you can find this no-frills ice cream parlor on Kloof st. in Cape Town’s central business district between 12pm and 6pm Mondays – Saturdays.

BODYOGRAPHY MASTERCLASS EVENT

Yesterday’s masterclass workshop with pro-makeup artist Jane Wilson – The Makeup Lowdown – featured the best of Bodyography’s cosmetics and makeup tools. I’ll be talking about my experience, a bit about the brand itself and share with you a few images from the #FinnisAndFaye Bodyography Cosmetics event.

The day kicked off early as I arrived sometime after 9am at the breathtaking Mondiall Bar and Restaurant, located in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. I was welcomed by Megan from Exposed By Her PR and immediately offered some of the best coffee I’ve tasted in Cape Town and then introduced myself to some of the other media attendees.
