ROSETTA ROASTERY | HOTSPOT

R osetta Roastery encapsulates what Cape Town is fast becoming known for: a city of many tucked away cafes and eateries that both encapsulates its local surroundings, while unveiling an otherworldly magic when one steps inside. Not unlike many of the coffee destinations one might encounter abroad – many of which are cities already synonymous with it’s coffee culture – Cape Town has sprung forth plenty of beautiful cafes in the last half-a-decade, many of which serving impeccably crafted brews. SOLO BRUNCHING, GLOSSY COVERS AND ROMANTIC SLEEVES

When the opportunity presents itself, trust yours truly to grab it without hesitation. As the family headed out on errands, I grabbed my things and headed off on a solo brunch expedition, camera in tow, forcing a magazine into my already stuffed tote. Having had one of those “what to wear” mornings, I grabbed a ruffled-sleeve jumper off my feature rail and paired it with some well-loved trousers and chunky ankle boots. Not sure where I’d land up, I let the smell of coffee and eggs guide me to my destination. SOLO BRUNCHING, GLOSSY COVERS AND ROMANTIC SLEEVES

THE EASIEST BRAN MUFFINS YOU’LL TRY THIS WEEK

Hello! Today has been a rather laid-back one where I’ve spent the entire time at home, couched out and doing a bit of baking as well. I figured this would be a good chance to make use of the bran muffin mix I bought on Sunday, while simultaneously satisfying my sweet tooth. I initially planned to stick to the recipe but as I went along, I decided to make a few changes, which turned out really good. I thought I’d share my easy adapt on the blog for those wanting to give it a go on their next bake-off. THE EASIEST BRAN MUFFINS YOU’LL TRY THIS WEEK

CHOCO-OAT-COOKIE BREAKFAST JAR

Morning! Today I decided to hop out of bed and finally post this long-overdue recipe on the blog. It took a little thinking on my part as I decided to stray from the original recipe I had in mind when I bought these cute little mason jars the other week. My recipe was inspired on a chance encounter with a rather delicious (and addictive!) oat cookie with chocolate nibs, but can definitely be tweaked to suit a healthier diet – particularly if you’re vegan. UNFRAMED ICE CREAM

This past friday Lemuel and I celebrated another anniversary (yes, it’s like the hundredth) and because of my lactose intolerance currently at an all time high we opted for a new spot in Kloof st. that offers both vegan and non-vegan ice cream to treat ourselves. Founded by New Yorker-turned-Capetonian, Yann Rey, Unframed Ice cream parlor offers an unusual selection of innovative flavors that both shock and indulge the senses, with a vast selection of toppings to amp things up if you’re in to that.
I kept things simple with a scoop of Lemongrass infused Jasmine rice on a sugar cone topped with vegan dark chocolate sauce. I was absolutely blown away at the creamy consistency of the vegan ice cream – as most non-dairy alternative usually lack in this regard.

The flavor was a mouthful in both name and taste – but I enjoyed it from start to finish. The boyfriend went with two scoops of dairy ice cream and chose burnt white chocolate and salted caramel peanut which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to the awesome staff for letting us try out a few flavors first and for the general warmth and friendly service – we will definitely be back for another taste adventure. If you’re after a taste flight yourself, you can find this no-frills ice cream parlor on Kloof st. in Cape Town’s central business district between 12pm and 6pm Mondays – Saturdays.
